Caribbean Red Habanero

Caribbean Red Habanero

Scovilles

Scientific Classification

Capsicum Chinense

Heat rating in Scovilles:

300000 – 475000

One of the hottest versions of the habanero is the Caribbean Red. Originating from the Yucutan Peninsula in Mexico, it is now commonly grown in the Caribbean and North America as well. This pepper variety is about twice as hot as a standard orange Habanero.

The slightly wrinkled chiles are approximately 1 inch wide by 1.5 inches long and are similar in shape to the Habanero. The chiles ripen from lime green to a brilliant red.

TASTE: Typical citrusy/fruity/smoky flavor of the orange habaneros with twice the heat.

CULINARY USES:  Excellent choice for use in salsa’s, marinades and of course, in hot sauce.
