The origins of Heavenly Fire artisan crafted premium salsa go back to 1999 when founder, Mark Anderson, decided to make some salsa while home visiting his family during his summer break from college. In what can be best described as an inspired moment, Mark decided to make a salsa unlike anything else on the market so he purchased fresh ingredients and set to work on his first batch of salsa.
Over the next several years, Mark continued to make salsa occasionally, making batches while pursuing his graduate studies at Montana and Colorado. In 2015, Mark decided to take it professional and that’s when he founded Heavenly Fire Salsa. Today Mark is taking Heavenly Fire Salsa to audiences everywhere by attending farmers markets, open air festivals and exhibitions.
Heavenly Fire Salsas are available in five heat levels: Sunny with a Chance of Salsa (mild), Hip-Tang Maneuver (medium), Holy Smoke (hot), Oh My Goodness! (hotter), and Sangre De Drago (hottest). Since I like my salsa pretty dang hot, my favorites are, of course, the three hottest varieties.
Ingredients: Each of their five salsas contain a combination of Jalapeños, Habaneros, Bhut Jolokia (ghost peppers), Scorpion Peppers, and Carolina Reaper peppers, along with tomatoes, lime, cilantro, onion, bell peppers, and spices. The different heat levels are created by adjusting the ratio of hot peppers at each level.
Texture: I’d consider this texture more of a restaurant style salsa, not super thick and loaded with chunks of fresh ingredients.
Smell: As soon as you crack open the jar you get this rick, smoky aroma. I can smell a good amount of cumin, and fresh peppers.
Even though each of these salsas incorporates the same ingredients, adjusting those ingredients at each heat level not only changes how spicy the salsa is, but also changes the favor. Let’s dive in to the subtle differences between the three hottest salsas.
Holy Smoke (Hot)
Holy Smoke masterfully combines Jalapeños, Habaneros, Bhut Jolokia (ghost peppers), Scorpion Peppers, and Carolina Reaper peppers, along with tomatoes, lime, cilantro, onion, bell peppers, and spices. You get that great smokey flavor. You can taste the freshness of the tomatoes, a little touch of lime. I would consider the heat of this salsa good for just about everyone, even those that don’t care for very spicy foods. It is a very approachable, well balanced salsa that leaves you with a mild mouth burn. I’d say if you’re looking for a tasty salsa that isn’t all that hot, this is the one to go with. If you prefer your salsa to leave you really feeling the heat, the next two might be right for you.
Oh My Goodness! (Hotter)
Oh My Goodness! combines Jalapeños, Habaneros, Bhut Jolokia (ghost peppers), Scorpion Peppers, and Carolina Reaper peppers, along with tomatoes, lime, cilantro, onion, bell peppers, and spices. Again, you get that great smokey flavor. This one starts to make you feel that heat all over. You know when you can feel the heat all over your entire head? It’s kinda like that. Good lime and cumin coming through. Very enjoyable. I don’t think it’s too over the top with the heat. Very doable for those that like spicy foods. The mouth burn definitely lasts longer, several minutes.
Sangre De Drago (Hottest)
Sangre De Drago translates to dragon’s blood in Spanish. Great name for this salsa. Again, you get that great smokey flavor, lots of cumin, but this one hits you with heat right away, and then you feel that heat slowly move down your body. I really do love the flavor of their the hottest salsas. I don’t think you could go wrong if you’re looking for some super tasty salsa that packs a punch!
