This is an interesting ginger-habanero infused simple syrup. This simple syrup can be used in place of plain simple syrup in any cocktail to add a bit of heat! Pairs well with tequila. You can make your own spicy twist on a margarita by mixing this with fresh lime juice and tequila. A Killer Cadilac, perhaps?

If you can boil water, you can make simple syrup. The staple cocktail sweetener more than earns its name, consisting of equal-parts granulated sugar and water.

Once the base is created, the variations are endless. You can create a huge variety of simple syrups by adding in some creative ingredients.

If you’d like to get creative, you can really make any combo of spicy simple syrups by using different chile peppers. Different peppers will result in different flavor profiles. I find the fruitiness of habaneros pairs with ginger quite deliciously.

Scotch bonnets could certainly be used instead of habaneros in this recipe.

Your homemade simple syrup, once sealed and refrigerated, should be good for up to a month. That’s 30 days of shaking, stirring, blending, and drinking your own homemade cocktails.
