Spanish Naga (Gibralta Naga) Pepper

Scientific Classification

Capsicum Chinense

Heat rating in Scovilles:

The Gibralta Naga, or Spanish Naga, is grown in Spain, but was developed in the UK from Naga Peppers from India. Chilli Pepper Pete was involved in setting up a project to grow the Naga in Spain, just over the border from Gibraltar. They were grown in poly tunnels and the high temperatures to stress the plants, making the pods incredibly hot.

It beat out the Bhut Jolokia for hottest pepper, but was soon overtaken. The Gibraltar Naga weighs in at 1,086,844 SHU with reports of it reaching over 1.2 million SHU.

They grow to about 3 inches and are round on top with a tapered end. They start out green and mature to red with wrinkled, knobby skin.

TASTE: With a fruity, citrus like aroma, the Spanish Naga packs a lot of sweet with it’s extreme heat. They have a very savory, sweet taste with them.
